May 15, 1959,
Sharron Yoder
became Mrs. Herman Bailey in Williamsville, New York.
Previously,
we met at Trinity College in Clearwater, Florida. When I saw Sharron it
was clear she was the one for me. After college we settled in Buffalo,
New York. How I ended up in television ministry is a miracle.
At that time in my life I was nowhere near a television
station or the ministry. Ward Hydraulics in Buffalo was my first place
of employment. As the manager of the production & inventory control
department, I didn't give much thought to television ministry. Ward Hydraulics
in Buffalo is about as far from television ministry as you can get! However,
the Word of God says, "A man’s heart plan’s his way,
but the Lord directs his steps." (Proverbs 16:9)
After
13 years in Buffalo, New York we decided to move to Chicago. I became
part owner of Bailey's Motel & Restaurant in 1972. By this time I
had two beautiful children, Colleen & Steven. (Their picture is in
the lower left corner.) The business was thriving and I was on my way
to being a successful businessman. I thought I would be in Chicago for
the rest of my life. The Lord had other ideas.
The Spirit led us to move back
to Clearwater. We were obedient to His promptings, because I remembered
the Scripture says, "obedience is better than sacrifice." (I
Sam 15:22) In the late 1970s the Lord began preparing me to minister to
literally millions of people in the coming years through Christian television.
A friend of mine who was a pastor, Dr. William Kline, asked me to start
a senior adult ministry at his church.
Even though I had been obedient up to this point, I kept finding
excuses not to start a senior adult ministry.
True to His Word, the Holy
Spirit convicted me and I said yes. As they say, the rest is history.
That ministry was called "Super Sixties" and it became the nation's
largest senior adult ministry with over 3000 in attendance! The "Super
Sixties" ministry was springboard to a television outreach that would
not only touch my hometown of Clearwater, Florida, but the entire nation.
